On the far eastern shore of Nantucket Island lies the sweet, quiet village of Siasconst: 'Sconset as the locals call it.The area was settled as a fishing village in the 17th century. In the 1830's town residents began to look for refuge from the noise and bustle of Nantucket's whaling industry and began to summer here. The cottages are short in stature so the fishermen could easily throw their nets over the roofs to dry.
