Sankaty Lighthouse At Dawn

The shoals off the eastern coast of Nantucket have a long history as a hazard to navigation. The United States government decided in the 1840s that a prominent lighthouse should be erected to alert mariners to the hazard. The Sankaty Lighthouse resembles a lone hermit who is at the same time jealous of his privacy and worrying about your safe passage.

I arose before dawn and drove the lengh of Nantucket to its far eastern edge in order to capture this remarkable cloud formation over the lonely structure.  The light was low but a tripod and my Nikon captured the scene.
